Are you thinking of turning a garage into a workout space? Maybe you are considering setting up a home office in the basement. You’re going to need flooring and epoxy floor products are a good bet. Durable and affordable, these floors start out beautiful and stay that way for a long time.

Preparing the Floor

Epoxy is usually applied over concrete, but it can be used on a wooden subfloor or to seal old floor tiles that may have toxic materials, such as asbestos. When they are completely covered in this manner, no harmful chemicals will be released into the air. In order to apply the epoxy, the floor must be clean and any cracks filled. Pour some water on a section of the floor to see if it was sealed. If the water stands in droplets, there is a sealer on it and the epoxy floor product may not work. You may have to remove the old sealer and apply a primer. Also, be sure that temperatures are between fifty and eighty degrees F when you apply the product or it may bubble and not set smoothly.

Applying the Coating

Epoxy comes in two containers that need to be mixed before pouring. You have to work quickly before the product sets, so gather all of your brushes, floats and other materials before you begin. Mix the two parts of the product in a bucket with a paint stirrer. Pour a stream of epoxy out onto the floor, and then smooth it with a float. If you need to cover a large area, work in sections, mixing up enough epoxy to get it spread quickly.

Pigments and Additions

You can tint the epoxy if you want it to be a particular color. You can also mix colors for a marbled look and you can achieve a beautiful metallic sheen with metallic pigments. Another accent is spreading small stone chips or pebbles mixed with epoxy onto the floor and then covering it with another layer of epoxy.

Durable and Beautiful

Epoxy floors are easy to lay out with no cutting or measuring, and they keep their good looks for years with little to no maintenance. Spills are easy to clean up and epoxy floors resist staining. Epoxy floors are perfect for high traffic areas like kitchens or workshops and are perfect for commercial spaces, like manufacturing areas, warehouses or showrooms.

Consider easy-to-apply, long-lasting epoxy to cover an unsightly garage or basement floor. Turn an ignored area into a beautiful space.
