Knitting has stereotypes attached to it such as knitting is for old women as countless movies, TV shows, and books have wrongly shown. This, is simply not true as knitting is not just a craft for a particular age, class, race, or even gender. Learning how to knit is not difficult but it will need a lot of patience and will need a lot of research as well, like looking for the perfect worsted weight yarn, fun patterns and techniques. But after that, you will be able to earn yourself a valuable skill that has more use to you than just crocheting your favorite scarf. People start learning how to knit as early as high school and they continue it in college. Knitting truly is something that we should all be doing and here are the reasons why.

Cozy Fun

Accomplishing something can be enjoyable as it will mark the finish line of all the labor that they have put into it. But more than that, it feels gratifying knowing that a ball of worsted weight yarn could turn out into something as pretty and as fabulous as an afghan that can hold a cute little baby.

The best thing in knitting though is not just finishing the entire pattern. It is having that piece of craft ready for continuation anytime you would like similar to a video game that you pause. It is quite alright to miss a few loops here and there. As an activity mainly made to pass time, you can afford to make all the knitting mistakes that you want.

You Will Not Die of Boredom

In today’s fast paced world, it sometimes is amazing to still have those moments where you have literally nothing to do. Think about getting on an hour train ride and the phone signal is just abysmal yet you are full of energy just waiting to be unleashed. How else would you make use of all that time that you would never be able to get back then? By twiddling your thumbs? Instead, why not just knit your loved one’s name on a scarf you ought to give him for Christmas.

If you ever catch the knitting fever, you’ll always have your hands full, both literally and metaphorically. When knitters get bored, they do not waste their time trying to find something to entertain themselves when all they need is in a knitting basket that they carry with them all the time. Thirty minutes later they have a new pair of gloves that they can show off to their friends.

It’s as easy peasy as one, two, three.

The title may be quite an understatement but sure enough, after a deep dive and a few patterns to match, you would be set and off to conquer the knitting world. Of course, as previously said, it would require a lot of patience and that means you have to give it time. But perhaps the best way to describe the learning of the knitting process is to think of it as something that you are gonna get the hang of after just one successful pattern.

The best thing about knitting, or any activity, really, is that you will not have to look far to get your way around things. A whole mob of knitters in streaming services will gladly offer you their tutorial videos for free. If it is your first time, you would be surprised at all the support that you can garner from like-minded knitters of the world. And when you get the ball rolling, it will not stop there. You could do research, comparisons, and hone your craft as you rummage through the monolith of information that is the internet.

Your Originality will Shine

You are a unique individual, and how better can you prove it by showing everyone the artist in you in creating a knitted pattern that speaks of yourself from your very core. Because, you are not a machine, what you created can never be faked by anyone else. You will always be a star in your knitting story. Even if you are doing the same pattern with someone else, even though they never really do end up the same as experience would show, you will not be using the same material so they would never be replicas of each other. For instance, you could use worsted weight yarn, an excellent choice, while the other could be using a differently weighted yarn which could make a whole lot of difference.

If that does not convince you, think of it as having your own line of clothing, designed by you, made by you, and to top it off, being modeled by you.

Listen to Them Rave about it

One of the best parts of knitting is when you turn your friends into knitters as all good knitters should, you will never run out of things that you can be conversing about. All the designs, and patterns, and material choices does not spring right out of nowhere. It comes from a lot of compassionate discourses with minds that think differently but share the same passion for knitting.

Conclusion

All in all, knitting is not going to be for everyone which could be a sad reality check for us. But if you give it a try, then who knows, you could be a knitter.
