We have been homeschooling for a couple of months now and it being our first year we all definitely need a break. I’ve decided to take a week off from our homeschool schedule to give myself and the kids a breather. They have been a bit overwhelmed with the subjects we’ve covered and I’ve been so jam-packed between being a work at home mom and homeschooling.
Though it will be a week off for the kids and I, I still wanted us to do something that they can still learn from yet provide us with the break that we need from all the lessons, worksheets and activities. I found a great website that provides recommended movies to watch for homeschooling. Teach with Movies provides a list of movies to watch by subject such as English, Social Studies, and Science. It also classifies movies by sub topic per subject. There are also recommended movies for health, sports, music, drama, dance, environment and moral and ethical topics.
I’ll only be asking the kids to write a reaction paper to the movie they watched or maybe answer a few questions that I’ll come up with for a specific movie.
Hopefully after our break we’ll all be recharged and ready for the coming lessons and topics I have scheduled for us.
What do you do during homeschool breaks? I’d love to hear about them and try them out on our next break.
My kids are still very young (10months n& 2.7yrs old) but I already try to follow a schedule at home to let them get used to homeschooling once they turn 4yrs. We do a regular morning playtime with nursery songs, counting, storytelling time , gardening or watch educational videos. Then independent play time after lunch and nap. Home school break time for us would mean a 3 or 2 day family trip or a whole day field trip away from the house.
Hi Dindi,
Thanks for sharing your homeschool break! A family trip sounds like a great idea and will definitely give the kids a break away from school and home as well. 🙂
