Many people are surprised that I was able to lose the weight with home workouts. It’s how I honestly started. I was too shy to join a gym aside from the fact that I couldn’t afford a gym membership. But I was determined. Determined to lose the weight that I had gained over many years from overeating, pregnancies and much more.

It can be daunting to start because you feel shy and what I felt at the time was nothing was going to happen. Yet, everyday I got up, followed the videos I had chosen and after a couple of weeks I already felt improvement. There was no visible weight loss just yet and that wouldn’t be for about another 3 months. I felt lighter somehow and as the videos got easier and easier to do.

In my quest to lose weight I set a schedule of 6 days a week an hour to 1 1/2 hours each day. It was rigorous because I chose videos that would work my thighs, core, abs, booty and arms.

Pros:

Almost no cost
No need to dress up
Can be more comfortable and relaxed

Cons:

No one to check your form
Distractions at home
Easily able to skip a workout

My initial workouts were more focused on pilates. After about 6 months I started attending a local workout session focused on pilates. The instructor, Jun Herrera helped me better my stances and made sure that I was pushing myself more.

With home workouts you sometimes fall into the routine of it and unless you have a full length mirror you’re not really checking yourself the whole time fore proper form.

I also started learning about different equipment, using pilates balls.

Certainly my confidence grew, and I attended fitness events. I tried out Pound fitness , a killer workout!

I also had my first gym experience attending a session at Plana Forma.

Yoga at Yoga Hive during an honestbee event I attended.

I finally discovered Anytime Fitness and did a 3 day trial. After which I started wanting to seriously committing to a gym membership. It wasn’t until 1 year later from when I started working out that I was able to join Anytime Fitness.

Pros:

Coaches to guide you
Variety in workouts
Working out with other people
More motivated to go because of membership fees

Cons:

Membership cost
Transportation/ Fare costs
Gym clothes to consider

Once upon a time… I used to be a Corp Comm Trainer, an Events Specialist and very confident in the workplace. It was my choice to work from home but I think my social skills suffered along with my confidence. Today, it takes some 1…2…3… moments before I face a group of people to be able to speak and socialize. I tend to stick to attending events that I know friends will be attending. At the same time I try to attend events where I have no clue who will be going. It's an inner struggle of trying to be more confident and retreating to the familiar. Oddly enough, I'm more comfortable speaking in front of an unknown crowd. So… if you should see me and I shy away or I'm uncertain of talking to you. Don't worry, it's entirely me. Not you. It's been bothering me lately for some reason. When I went to @fairviewanytimefitness I wore my earphones, avoided eye contact or any kind of conversation. I just wanted to attend the class, participate and leave having accomplished what I came for. It felt lonely though. I wonder sometimes for my own self preservation if I should continue working from home or go back to working im an office. What do you guys think? #yoga #ashtangayoga

Although Anytime Fitness is known for being a 24 hour gym I only attend the classes they offer. I attended some dance classes like the one here.

Today, I’m focused on my yoga classes. I’ve grown to love yoga and though I miss pilates, I also find yoga challenging.

With yoga, I’ve learned to do headstands, start doing back bends, and more complicated yoga poses.

Today, I don’t workout as much. I try to attend 3 to 4x a week as long as my schedule allows. I have a gym membership at Anytime Fitness which I plan on keeping.

For me what worked was home workouts until I was comfortable enough to join a gym. I’m pretty disciplined and was able to motivate myself to workout daily. Now, I’m able to keep the weight off and practice yoga as much as I can to strengthen myself.
