Last December 2, 2018, McDonald’s continued its commitment to help children learn how to read through Stripes Run 2018. Now on its 9th year, Stripes Run brought together family and friends in its annual run for reading, which was held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Wearing the iconic red and white striped socks, thousands of runners also enjoyed a morning of fun games and activities around the race village. The run ended on a high note with a star-studded awarding session where McDonald’s endorsers Alden Richards, Maine Mendoza, and Gabby Concepcion joined hosts Atom Araullo and Jackie Lou Blanco. Runners were also excited to see GMA artists Rayver Cruz, Janine Gutierrez, and Camille Prats with her husband John Yambao and son Nathan, who were present at the run to show their support for the advocacy. Kids of all ages got to experience a live reading session given by Kapuso celebrity mom, Chynna Ortaleza with her husband, singer Kean Cipriano and their daughter, Stellar along with McDonald’s Chief Happiness Officer, Ronald McDonald.

Through McDonald’s Stripes Run, P2 million was donated to Ronald McDonald Read to Learn, a beginning reading program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) which aims to improve the literacy skills of Grades 1 and 2 public school students while they are in the early stages of learning.  To date, the Read to Learn program has enrolled close to 10,000 partner schools nationwide— reaching more than 12 million students.

“With McDonald’s Stripes Run, we are able to strengthen our commitment to families, by giving kids and their parents an event where they can spend a day of active play together and contribute to a great cause at the same time. We’re grateful for the continuous support we get from Stripes Run participants every year, and we hope they also extend that support to all our other advocacies,” said McDonald’s Philippines Marketing Director Christina Lao.
