I’m a big fan of the Speakaboos story app where Jael and I have read tons of fascinating stories. Every night we make it a point to read at least 2 stories.

Well, they have just shared some great news with us. They will be celebrating International Dot Day by adding Peter H. Reynold’s “Ish” to the Speakaboos library!

SPEAKABOOS WELCOMES CHILDREN’S STORYBOOK FAVORITE “ISH” TO ITS DIGITAL LIBRARY IN CELEBRATION OF “INTERNATIONAL DOT DAY”

The Follow-Up to “The Dot” Launches on the Award-Winning Digital Literacy Platform on September 15th

On September 15th, millions of kids and educators around the world will celebrate the spirit of creativity famously featured in Peter H. Reynolds’ beloved storybook classic, “The Dot.” Speakaboos, the award-winning digital literacy platform, joins this special event known as “International Dot Day” by adding “Ish,” Mr. Reynold’s acclaimed follow-up to “The Dot,” to its library of digital storybooks.

“Ish” is the story of Ramon, who loves to draw but calls into question his abilities when his creations are criticized for not being realistic enough. Luckily, Ramon has a spirited little sister who sees the world differently and helps him appreciate that there is more than getting things just “right.” It’s ok to be “right-ish” and to think “ish-ly.” According to the renowned author, “Ish” is “… a tribute to an approach to thinking – and relaxing – about your art, your writing, your craft. Your life.”

“Peter H. Reynolds has given the children’s storybook world something truly special with ‘The Dot’ and ‘Ish,’” said Dr. Alice Wilder, Chief Learning Officer, Speakaboos. “The focus on creativity and self-expression is a valuable message to kids and they are wonderful titles to have in the Speakaboos library. We’re honored to be able to share these stories with our young readers around the world in celebration of International Dot Day.”

“Ish” will receive the unique Speakaboos treatment that encourages kids to read along with highlighted text in a digital storybook format. In this “Read to Me” mode, words are highlighted as the story progresses which supports literacy skills including fluency and vocabulary as well as print awareness and listening skills. The story adds to the growing Speakaboos library of over 175 interactive stories and will join “The Dot” which is already available on the platform. Kids, parents, and educators can read “The Dot,” in anticipation of “Ish” launching on Speakaboos by visiting the website where they can sign up for a free 7-day trial before registering for a $4.99 monthly or $49.99 full-year subscription. The Speakaboos app featuring the entire library for mobile devices can be downloaded for iOS through the App Store or for Android through Google Play.

Speakaboos will also join the millions of #DotDay participants from around the world on social media to celebrate creativity on September 15th and will host a contest on Twitter. One lucky winner will win a hardcover copy of “Ish” autographed by the author (see the official Speakaboos Facebook page for details). Speakaboos invites fans to follow along on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram for all of the #DotDay activity.
