Your Favorite Characters in Disney Live! at the Kia Theatre

Are you as excited as we are about Disney Live! showing from September 1-6? I sure hope so and after attending the media launch at Gloria Maris in Gateway I’ve become even more excited! We got a chance to find out how the production starts to what to expect from the rock n roll festival.

This is the first time that Disney Live! will hit the Philippine shores. Produced by Feld Entertainment in cooperation with Araneta Center and Uniprom we’ll be experiencing “a whole new world” with this Disney show.

“Disney live is the first live show experience many children will have so what I want them to walk away with is an experience that they won’t forget. I want them to have the best time with their parents with their siblings dancing singing and seeing their favorite characters come to life,” said Feld Entertainment Producer Alana Feld.

In order to create a total rock and roll experience, Feld Entertainment has hired the best creative minds on board, bringing in the hippest director Fred Tallaksen who has worked with Madonna, Enrique Iglesias, and a bunch of other artists.

Tallaksen applauds the whole production and creative team especially the versatility of performers. “One of the challenges for the cast is they have to play different parts in the show. They have to be able to tumble, there is rollerblading, there is drumming, there’s all these things in the show and a lot of the performers do all of them.”

Blake Tatroe shared how unique the Filipino audience is when it comes to Disney shows as he often sees how passionate we are about Disney films despite not having a Disney Park. Also when asked, Filipinos identify with the characteristics of beloved Disney favorites rather than their appearance.

Nick Manna, Performance Director

Nick Manna who was also once Buzz Lightyear shared what could be expected from the show and even taught us the “Rock the House Move”. It’s also great to know that there’s a Filipino cast member from California who’s an ensemble dance member and who has been with Disney for 4 years now.

It was interesting to learn that a wide scale show such as Disney Live! actually takes a year to prepare for and 8 months for rehearsal. Staging such as shows like this requires immense preparation and coordination and so they have a white model meeting where all departments get together and study the best way to go about putting up the show efficiently. They have mini models which they use to imagine how everything will be played out. Since they are known for their efficiency, even departments from government consult with them when it comes to logistics.

Just a few special segments from the show we can watch for are the “Rip Roarin’ Hee Haw Show, the “Magic Carpet Ride” and “Under the Sea”.

“This has got to sound different from any show we’ve ever done because we’re really going to this rock festival concert. It’s a rhythm-driven track with everything being contemporary sounding,” shared Music Director Stan Beard.
