Belle de Jour Power Planner: Pantene Treatment Kit

Posted on

Have you signed up with group.ilovebdj.com? Just for signing up and answering a few questions I received a Pantene treatment kit for free!

BDJ or Belle de Jour is a complete power planner for women that includes discounts to popular establishments. I used to have a power planner but after living most of my working time online I haven’t had a chance to get another planner.

I received a treatment kit consisting of a Pantene Pro-V Daily Intensive Conditioner Total Damage Care and an All Day Smooth Miracle Water. I get treatments done on my hair so I’ve been using a certain shampoo brand to help with strengthening my hair and a 1 minute hot oil conditioner.

I’m excited to try these products. After opening the box I could immediately smell the fragrance and just loved it.

The Life of a Flight Attendant: Review of Confessions of a Hostie

Posted on

Once upon a time I wanted to be a flight attendant. I had the height for it, some would say the look and I had enough adventure in me to want to try it. The life of an international flight attendant seemed so exciting and fascinating. Imagine getting to travel to different countries, taking in the culture and meeting new people. It does seem like a glamorous life indeed.

confessions-of-a-hostieWhen I was given the opportunity to review Confessions of a Hostie by Danielle Hugh I took the opportunity because I was really interested to learn what their life is really like. I was so engrossed in the book. I found myself finding snippets of time to get in some reading.

I found her accounts of passenger stories hilarious and at times a little sad to realize how indifferent and insensitive people can be. You realize as you read the book that flight attendants don’t just require “flying skills” but also a strong stomach, an incredible amount of patience and adaptability.

Danielle keeps the story real not keeping her heroine nice and neat but funny, capable of mistakes and as human as we all are. Reading the rude encounters she has on various trips I try to imagine if I would have the same resolve.

I’m sure it would be difficult to maintain any semblance of a family life when you are frequently on the go, in different countries on even the most sacred of holidays.

Imagine spending Christmas all the way across the world while your family is at home waiting for you to get back. It can probably be a lonely life and is most ideal for singles. I admire those that are able to work as a flight attendant and still manage to have a family.

You’re in for a funny and interesting read with this book. Her follow up More Confessions of a Hostie is next on my reading list. Stay tuned for my review on that!

A Compilation of Short Articles: Review of Articles for the Mind by Christine Rice

Posted on

articles-for-the-mind-christine-riceThere are times when I want to read but just read short articles especially in between work or while I’m having a snack. When I don’t have time to read and don’t want to get that feeling where I’m left hanging I go for these kinds of reads.

I’m reviewing another book by Christine Rice, Articles for the Mind and this book has 58 short nonfiction articles.

The short articles in this book are of a practical nature and great for applying to your everyday life. The book is sectioned into 7 parts having articles for each part. Topics in the book include Beauty and Health, Careers and Education, Family and Pets, Financial Planning, Frugal Living, and Money, Food, Holidays, and Home, Psychology, Self-Help, and Values and Writing.

Her approach to each article is very matter of fact and practical. Reading it you would think that these are obvious conclusions but they are a healthy way of reminding us how to approach situations and how to condition are way of thinking when it comes to areas we often struggle in.

I found the Family and Pets, Financial Planning, Frugal Living, and Money and Writing chapters to be most helpful in my current situation. They served as good reminders for me to try and understand others more, learn how to prioritize and how to be more creative. The Writing chapter was a quick summary of her other book that I was able to review, Freelance Writing Guide: What to Expect in Your First Year as a Freelance Writer.

If you should find yourself struggling with your weight, finding a job or with your own personal problems the other chapters will be an ideal read for you.

How to Get Freelance Writing Jobs: A Review of Freelance Writing Guide: What to Expect in Your First Year as a Freelance Writer

Posted on

In another life I might have been a full fledged writer. When I was younger, I had a dream of becoming one but as time went by I wasn’t able to focus on it and soon it was set aside. As an adult, blogging is my form of writing so when I was presented with an opportunity to review a book on how to get freelance writing jobs I jumped at the chance.

Freelance-Writing-Jobs-GuideFreelance Writing Guide: What to Expect in Your First Year as a Freelance Writer by Christine Rice can be a useful and helpful tool for first time writers or writers that need a bit of guidance.

I didn’t come across anything new as I had come across these ideas at some point but it does put things into perspective and can guide you to a good start by eliminating common mistakes and misunderstandings. When you first start out as a freelance writer it can be overwhelming as you’re not sure where to start, what to focus on and how to deal with rejection and criticism.

Having been a writer for about 7 years, Christine has plenty of advice to share. From creating a portfolio to job searching and tracking income and expenses she gives you a broad yet detailed idea of how to start to be a writer and how to be successful at it.

As I mentioned, the ideas presented weren’t new to me but the way that they were presented gave me insight on how I can better manage my time, get my blog out on the market and how I can earn from it. She even cites websites that you can go to for help such as where you can publish your content and free courses you can take to educate yourself.

She also further touches on topics such as ghostwriting, networking and lifestyle change that I thought were helpful. It’s a great idea to bring the book with you so you can keep track of your progress and also learn as you go.

I would recommend this book for those seriously thinking of writing as a career and those who would like to create a writer’s frame of mind.
