Blogapalooza 2013: Gavino’s Donuts & Yummy Organics Food Products

Gavino’s Donuts

One of the best things I received at Blogapalooza 2013 was a box of Gavino’s Donuts. I was really thrilled that I got a box of 6 of their best selling donuts. Gavino’s Japanese Donuts has been around since December 2011. They are a goumet donut shop specializing in mochi donuts and eventually expanded their selection to include milk tea and coffee.

Having over 18 stores 4 of which are to be opening soon. Their selection of flavors is quite tasty having flavors such as Green Tea Glazed, Sour Cream, Red Velvet Pistachio, Choco Almond, Green Tea Cheesecake, Pork Floss, Parmesan Glazed and more.

I have tried the donuts and loved the Hazelnut and Choco Almond. The bread is chewier than your regular donut. It also comes in a different shape, not your usual round donuts.

Their prices are also reasonable going from Php29.00 to Php39.00 for the Ring dounts while their Mochi balls are from Php15.00 to Php25.00.

Yummy Organics

At the Gavino’s Donuts booth there was also a selection of organic food products called Yummy Organics.

Truth be told I’m not a big lover of organic drinks. I used to drink apple juice by the carton because of my gallstones but when I had those removed I started sticking with fresh orange juice. I always found these types of juices to be bitter and unpleasant to drink. However, after sampling their Berry Company juices I discovered a refreshing and delicious healthy drink.

These products are sourced from the UK and are available in leading supermarkets. Aside from the Berry Company juices there are Eat Natural bars and Dorset Cereals. If you are health conscious or looking to improve your diet these are the way to go. They are a bit more expensive than other brands but are guaranteed all organic and nutritious.

Natural Mosquito Repellent: Anti Mosquito Sticks from Mommy Patch

Posted on

I discovered these mosquito repellent sticks on Facebook while I was browsing for online sellers. I came across Suburbananay who is a reseller of Mommy Patch products in my area.

My youngest has sensitive skin and once bitten by a mosquito will have a big inflamed bump that will sometimes turn into a wound when he scratches it. When we brought him to the doctor she told us that he had a mild form of skin asthma. I’m alarmed when he has a bite and I quickly try to put an anti-bacterial ointment to halt the inflammation.

I was pleased to find that these anti-mosquito sticks are all natural with no colorants or preservatives. It’s also easy to apply to the affected area. I purchased 2 kinds of anti mosquito sticks.

The Lavender Rescue Stick is ideally used as a skin re-generator, an anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti- bacterial, deodorizer, analgesic, to help prevent scars, and can also help boost the immune system. The ingredient lavender has been used to help with abscesses, acne, allergies, fungal infections, boils, bruises, burns, cold sores, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hives, inflammations, insect bites and stings, lice, psoriasis, rashes, ringworm, scabies, scars, shingles, stretch-marks, sunburns and wounds. I have used this on my son when he gets insect bites and it has proven effective as his bites don’t become inflamed.

The Anti Mosquito sticks prevent mosquito bites on areas where applied. It’s handy and so easy to use. This is great to have in your bag as it takes up almost no space and can be used in instances where you find yourself in areas with plenty of mosquitoes.

This is not a sponsored post and I am not receiving any earnings from recommending these products.

Nike We Run MNL 2013

Posted on

I have been trying to get fit by doing weekly walks with my friends who also happen to be my neighbors. The key word is “trying”. After having 3 children it’s been tough to get back into shape. Events like the Nike We Run MNL are a great opportunity to get out there and exercise more.

Here’s a press release about the event.

NIKE CELEBRATES THE SPIRIT OF FILIPINOS WITH WE RUN MNL 2013

We Run MNL 2013 aims to inspire, motivate and unite Filipinos to move more, move better.

Manila, Philippines, 26 October 2013 – The Nike We Run MNL (Manila) returns for a third edition to inspire, motivate and connect runners around the world. On 1 December 2013, 15,000 runners are expected to take to the streets of the historical Marikina City and run the 10km in celebration of the spirit of unity that is significantly Filipino.

“For this year’s race, we have incorporated the personality of the people of the Philippines to motivate and inspire them to lead a more active lifestyle. Filipinos are kindred spirits who, without hesitation, unite for a good cause and help each other. Taking this, we hope that every Filipino runner can inspire and motivate another and run the race together” says Courtney Cole-Faso, Country Marketing Manager, Nike Philippines.

In the spirit of unity, runners must sign up for the race with a “buddy”. This is to encourage runners to constantly motivate each other to achieve their goals in preparation for the 10km race. Nike will organize training sessions in November to help runners prepare for the race. The training sessions will be conducted in various locations around the city, and runners will participate in Nike Training Club, get tips from athletes and get an experience only Nike can bring.

Runners can also prepare for race day through the more than 18 million strong Nike+ community. The new Nike+ Challenges is a feature that allows runners to set a distance goal, invite Nike+ friends to join, and race to the virtual finish line. Users can determine the name of the Challenge, mileage goal, time period and participants. Additionally, a new chat feature allows friends to encourage each other and share tips throughout the Challenge. Runners can stay motivated by checking the live leader board to track progress and see where they rank amongst their friends.

Nike We Run MNL is part of Nike’s global We Run series which is aimed at celebrating, motivating and inspiring athletes from around the world. Manila will be one of 26 cities, with 350,000 runners taking over 3 billion strides during the course of the We Run race series motivated by Nike+ and Nike Running design innovations. Nike’s We Run races range in distance from 5K to a full marathon and reflect the unique enthusiasm of each city. From Sao Paulo, to Seoul, to Singapore, runners will be moved to action through a series of unique experiences. You can also follow the Nike We Run journey through an interactive map online as it passes through each city.

Drinking Water Checklist

Posted on

Water is the one of the most important necessities of life. Without it we would perish in a week depending on the climate. I created a drinking water checklist because I’m one of those people that forget to drink water.

I can literally go a day without drinking water. However, that will lead to major illnesses down the line. In fact, I had my gallbladder removed and one of the reasons was that my body lacked the water intake it needed.

I’ve come across apps that were supposed to help remind me when to drink but it never really worked. Mostly, it would go off and I would be in the middle of something and it would just slip my mind usually realizing that I hadn’t drank all day. My friends marvel that I can go without a drink while eating. I’ve become so used to it but I know that it’s unhealthy and I need to change my ways.

I needed a reminder, something I could see to remind me. Luckily, I had access to PicMonkey and went ahead and made my own checklist. It’s a very basic list. It shows me the days and how many glasses I have drank. If mid way through the day I see that I’ve only ticked 2 circles then I know I need to catch up and drink at least every hour after that.

If you’re in the same boat as me then you are very much welcome to use this checklist. If you will be sharing it please link to this post.

My First Winning Contest Experience (and hopefully not my last!)

Posted on

I’m not one of those people that wins things. I can count on one hand things that I have won (being a mountain bike, fruit basket and this!) My first winning contest experience was not what I expected.

I had entered a simple Facebook contest where you tell Glam-O-Mamas why you should win the prize. Here’s my winning entry.

I didn’t know I had won until I was sent a personal message on Facebook but when I did find out I was ecstatic! The prize was a spa trip to Facial Care Centre.

It was great to finally win something. I join giveaways and contests when I can but the competition is fierce!

The downside was that I didn’t receive my prize until 2 months and 2 days later. I wasn’t too irritated about it because I had after all won a contest. Although as time was passing on I started to wonder if I would ever receive my prize.facial care centre My First Winning Contest Experience (and hopefully not my last!)

What’s nice about the whole situation is that Facial Care Centre and Glam-O-Mamas kept in touch with me and didn’t brush me off. I received, emails, text messages and personal messages on Facebook updating me.

I finally received my prize and it was personally delivered by one of Amanda Griffin-Jacob’s assistants. Amanda is the brains and beauty behind Glam-O-Mamas.

I’m grateful for the prize and will be sharing my experience at Facial Care Centre soon!
