I’m thankful that my mom was patient enough to make sure that I brushed my teeth when I was younger. I remember my brother usually falling asleep, my mom dragging him to the sink and brushing his teeth while he was half-asleep on a chair.
Her perseverance to make sure we had healthy teeth was successful. My teeth are healthy and I have no cavities. I’ve only had a pasta once and 1 tooth removed (wisdom tooth which was impacted).

She shared that 9 out of 10 children have tooth decay in the Philippines which is pretty overwhelming. I think that goes back to the fact that most parents don’t feel the need to take care of baby teeth because they’re just temporary. Point in fact is that this is the basis of whether children will have a good set of teeth or not.
I was interested to learn that it’s starches and not necessarily just sweets that can be harmful to your teeth. Usually as parents we prefer to give our children biscuits for snacks thinking that it’s healthier overall but it turns out that we miss the fact that it can be bad for your teeth.
I also wasn’t aware that saliva helps you fight germs in your mouth and that it also protects tooth enamel and prevents tooth decay and gum disease. For saliva to play an effective role it needs time to reproduce the proteins and minerals. This happens when we chew. The more you chew the more saliva you make.
