Our home is our sanctuary and as much as possible we want it to be a place we want to come home to, to relax in and have the best memories. Part of what makes it possible is that we can design and decorate it according to our styles and tastes. Every home differs and there are many ways to fix it up. Today, most homes go for a modern look to accommodate appliances and convenience. It usually starts with canvasing for modern furniture. Here are some of the things to consider when choosing what will fit your ideal home .
Colors
Any home can be warm and welcoming with the right colour palette. Though are various ways to dress up your walls you may opt to paint and a safe and inviting choice are neutral colors.
Many choose a contemporary style which focuses on two opposing colors where one color acts as the dominant shade and the other as an accent. When choosing a complimentary color palette though neutrals play a big part in completing the look.
You can also choose a pattern that has several or more colours. These colours can then be utilized in other areas to be made as accents.
Patterns
Patterns can be busy but when done right can become a calm surrounding. Just take note though that the busier the pattern the more active the mood. Surprisingly, larger patterns can bring more calm then smaller patterns for some. Bigger sized patterns are best used for walls and floors while smaller patterns better used as accents such as throw pillows and other decorative items.
Functionality
It would be a dream to have all new furnishings and designs when working on your home design but for practicality purposes your best best will be to make use of existing items by finding re-purposing them. An old ironing board can be a makeshift table or even a counter.
Your central attraction can be the modern furniture that you choose from sofas to dining chairs and tables.
Functionality also pertains to the ease of access and use. Have a think about how you will use the room so that you design it with function in mind and not just form. A kitchen should have the space for all the necessary equipment you’ll need. A living room should have adequate seating, etc.
Durability
Any design for your home should have durability in mind. You can have the best looking furniture and pieces but if the quality of these things aren’t meant to last you’ll end up having a run down look. Make sure to get quality over quantity. Also, look at the necessary warranties and precautions from the structure to the last decorative piece you choose.
Decorating your home is an investment. As with any investment, it takes time. You start with preparations, then executions and finally refinement. It will be a constant work in progress because you will always have or want to change something or add on to but that’s the beauty of designing your own home. You have free reign to do so.
