Don’t you find yourself taken away by TV shows you watch? I often do especially when I’m watching dramas, thrillers and crime shows. Sometimes though I seek shows that present something other than what I’m normally used to. I’ve taken a liking to watching British shows and I’m sharing several that I think are worth your time!

The Bletchley Circle

With an extraordinary flair for code breaking and razor-sharp intelligence skills, four seemingly ordinary women become the unlikely investigators of a string of grisly murders in this original thriller, set against the backdrop of post-war London.

It’s 1951 and Susan, played by two-time BAFTA award-winner Anna Maxwell Martin, Millie (Rachael Stirling, Women in Love), Lucy (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art graduate Sophie Rundle) and Jean (Julie Graham, William & Mary, Survivors) have returned to post-war domesticity, modestly setting aside the part they played in the Allied victory. Their brilliant work at top security HQ Bletchley Park helped crack the codes used by the German military, producing crucial intelligence that shortened the war.

Any series that features women at their best is something I love to watch. The fact that this takes place in the 1950’s makes it even more fascinating.

Sherlock

Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as his loyal friend, Doctor John Watson. Rupert Graves plays Inspector Lestrade. The iconic details from Conan Doyle’s original books remain – they live at the same address of 221b Baker Street, have the same names and, somewhere out there, Moriarty is waiting for them.

Benedict Cumberbatch. Need I say more? The combination of Benedict and Martin Freeman makes it more than a watchable show. They play off each other very well and even into Season 4. It’s the kind of show that you wish there was more of.

Marcella

Despite marriage woes, a tragic loss, memory blackouts and her struggles as a mom, a London detective excels at what she does best: catching killers. An emotionally damaged ex-police detective goes back on the job to investigate a serial killer after her seemingly happy marriage falls apart.

Anna Friel is top notch in my book. I first watched her in A Midsummer Nights Dream and to see her in a role that’s a total opposite of that just proves how talented she is. More please!

Miranda

Socially inept Miranda always gets into awkward situations; working in her joke shop with best friend Stevie, being hounded by her pushy mother, and especially when she’s around her crush Gary.

This came highly recommended by a friend and it’s one of the best yet! Miranda is so hilarious that you can watch it again and again.

The Fall

A detective superintendent battles her own personal demons as she tries to get inside the head of a serial killer hiding behind a family-man facade. A detective superintendent battles her own personal demons as she tries to get inside the head of a serial killer hiding behind a family-man facade.

This is Jamie Dornan pre 50 Shades of Grey and for me at his best. Add Gillian Anderson and it’s one of the best crime shows made.

Safe

After his teenage daughter goes missing, a widowed surgeon in an affluent neighborhood begins unearthing dark secrets about the people closest to him. After his teenage daughter goes missing, a widowed surgeon in an affluent neighborhood begins unearthing dark secrets about the people closest to him.

This was one of those recommended shows when you watch Netflix. I was intrigued at how casual the story started and it hooked me in every episode trying to figure out just what had happened to his daughter.
