This Christmas we stayed at ICON Hotel Timog, you could say to get away from it all but really, I just wanted to be away from home and unnecessary stress. It was also a chance to spend some time with the kids. The teens are so wrapped up in their lives which I can’t blame them for but it’s nice to have this opportunity.
Situated in the heart of Quezon City, ICON Hotel Timog is just a few steps away from almost anything you would need from restaurants to groceries and ATMs. I was first introduced to this hotel when we collaborated with them for the Mommy Bloggers Philippines Christmas Party 2018. It went perfectly with our movie themed event because ICON Hotel Timog’s hotels are actually themed by icons such as Michael Jackson, Leonardo Da Vinci and Marilyn Monroe.
I had wanted to book the Harry Potter or Michael Jackson room but we needed a Suite 2 room for a comfortable stay and unfortunately these icons were for Deluxe and Premium rooms only. I decided on the Leonardo Da Vinci room but upon check in we were given the Charlie Chaplin room. For now I can’t say whether you can request an icon of your choosing or can only get what’s available.
The Suite 2 room has a Double and Single bed with a bathroom having a tub and hot and cold water. Overall, it was a clean room but we did request to have the comforter changed because Kianna wasn’t comfortable using the existing one.
I was impressed with the bathroom because it was spacious enough, had a tub and also had back lighting. It would have been great with a special someone.
I try not to let small details ruin the overall stay but there were a couple of things that might put off those who are a bit particular. The closet door became unhinged which wasn’t much of a big deal because I just set it aside for the time being. The one thing that did bother me and might bother you is the mini fridge. I assume the smell is because it was not properly aired out and hadn’t been used for at least 2 to 3 days. I would suggest calling housekeeping like I did for them to clean, spritz and air out before using. I liked the charging station but it seemed it wasn’t working at the time.
Like I said, I don’t let small things get to me so overall the stay was good. For the published rate of Php4525 the room itself might not be a strong point but the location can’t be beat. The wifi is also strong so plus points for that. The cable TV had a good selection of channels but it was a snowy reception. Still, we enjoyed watching Wonder Woman and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days.
The following morning we had breakfast. As you can see Bastian was not his sunny self just yet. I have to say though the Christmas decor in their lobby was definitely uplifting.
The breakfast buffet selection was adequate. Nothing outstanding but you do have your basics of cereal, breads and breakfast dishes. There’s also an omelet station. Again, if you’re particular then you have to be more conscious when choosing your plates, utensils and glasses.
The dining area has awesome posters of icons and there’s even a whole wall for our personal fave Michael Jackson.
I had promised Jael that we would swim but it was cold and the swimming area was empty with a bit of a musty scent. There are plenty of shower rooms to rinse and wash off. Three pools are available but it wasn’t enticing enough for us to swim or maybe it was just the weather and it being just after breakfast. We all wanted to cuddle in our bed and sleep some more.
Since we were spending Christmas eve at a hotel, we had to bring our gifts so I set it up against the Charlie Chaplin mural. It cheered up the room and us! It wasn’t 9pm yet when the kids were asking to open their gifts.
We had a simple dinner that we ordered from Greenwich. Note to self, double sized pizzas are small. We did have plenty of pasta and chicken though. I think I overdid it with the food just a tad bit. We didn’t eat as much as I expected.
Overall, we had a comfortable stay. I would say to consider ICON Hotel Timog if you need a place to stay with main amenities in a prime Quezon City location.
