Through time mold can build up in the home and for moms like me who are busy 24/7 this can easily get out of hand! Find out how to get rid of mold and how to make sure it never comes back again!
Mold in your home – how should you deal with it?
Mold is not something that you should ignore. If you do not deal with the problem the condition and appearance of your property can deteriorate, and the issue can affect the health of people who live in your home. This is particularly the case when people suffer from conditions such as asthma, which affect their breathing.
The best thing to do is stop mold from appearing in the first place. If you are unsuccessful in doing this, you need to take action to have mold removed, as soon as possible.
How to limit the chance of mold appearing?
There are two main factors which can encourage the appearance of mold in your home:
- Leaks that have not been dealt with.
- Higher than normal humidity levels.
Both of these mold risk factors involve moisture, which mold needs to flourish. Always make sure that leaks are repaired as soon as possible and that you deal with high humidity levels.
Dealing with mold when it’s present
If you feel congested and your eyes are watering, and there is no obvious cause, there may be mold in your home. This is quite often the first sign of a mold problem; you should be particularly concerned if the symptoms are only present while you are in your home.
If you think that there may be mold in your property, use your eyes and nose. You may be able to see where mold is starting to form, or smell the distinctive mold scent. If you notice signs of mold early enough you may be able to deal with the problem yourself. If you do not deal with the problem early enough, and it takes hold, you need to speak to an Environmental Professional.
Their job is to examine your property and tell you what work needs to be done, to get rid of the problem. Once you have this information you need to hire a professional to deal with the issue, and return your home to a mold free state. You may find that the experts, who deal with the mold removal, will also clean your property. If this is not the case, you should record property damage info, so that you can hire a professional cleaning service and make sure any necessary repairs are completed.
Mold is a problem that many people underestimate. They do not deal with it as quickly as they should. If you are complacent about the presence of mold, there is a good chance that the problem will escalate. In the right environment, mold can spread quickly. If this happens the interior of your home can be seriously adversely affected. As mentioned earlier, you could also be putting the health of the people in your home at risk. It’s not worth taking chances where mold is concerned. If you have a problem that you cannot deal with yourself, you should seek expert help straight away.
