The day has finally come… My youngest son, Jael finally had his first day of school. We chose to wait until he was 5 years old and entering Kindergarten instead of having him go to school early. This was the same choice we made for our teens. I’m more of a believer in toddlers being toddlers rather than making them learn their abc’s at the earliest possible age. Not that it’s wrong to get them learning early. It’s just kids will go to school and learn all of that stuff but they’ll only be so young once.
You’ve probably heard that play is also learning which I believe to be true. Everything a child does is a learning experience at 5 years old and below. We took opportunities for learning as they came. When it was nearing enrollment I learned that since Jael would be in Kinder 2 he needed to learn how to write and know his abc’s. We had to do some tough love at times so he could start practicing his abc’s but in then end he initiated learning. When I’d be working at my computer he would sit on my lap and tell me each letter on the keyboard. It does take patience but when you think about it, what’s a couple of minutes in your day to give time to listen?
We had been preparing for when he went to school and collected useful items over time. I love that I have StickerKid name labels for his uniforms and supplies.
We also saved this Miles from Tomorrowland set we got awhile back. Since he’ll be doing some cooking and painting we set aside the apron he used from a Brotzeit Kinder Koche session he attended. We bought his backpack and lunch bag but got them on sale!
My little boy all ready for school. We have a whole year ahead of us but I’m excited to share in Jael’s exciting Kindergarten journey.
How was your child’s first day at school?

Such a big milestone for Jael! Welcome to Big School dearest. It is great that you started collecting what he needed early on so at least you didn’t do much last minute shopping and spend more than what is needed. 🙂
My son spent 3 years in Preschool but if ever I will have another child, I will enroll him late like your son. With K to 12, nakakaburn out sa bata kung puro aral na lang. Ok na yung 1 year lang sa preschool. 🙂
Hello there, school boy. Surely you would love school. Is his school in London Drive? There’s a Holy Child Academy near our place and I often see on their huge billboard that there are other branches of Holy CHild and one is in London Drive.
You did a good job in sending him to school at age 5 because Jael had a grand time being kid, away from the pressure of competition in school. I sent my kids at 3 yrs old. When they were in Grade 1 they got bored and said “Mom, we all know about that in pre-school”. By the way, my Kuya studied in Holy Child before.
Congrats Jael! Enjoy and have fun in school. 🙂
Wow! How exciting naman. 🙂 wonder how it would feel when my little popy goes to school na din. I’m curious with sticker kid. I like that. Perfect for my oc self.
I agree that kids will only be kids once and that they should enjoy playing at 3 than working on their homeworks, but I just get too excited at times thinking of my little girl’s first day at school! Hehehe!
Congratulations Jael! This is what I miss about going to school – allowance, new bag, new stuff, everything’s new! haha.
Wow I thought we should send our kids to school when they reached 3 years of age just like me nieces. Now you had me thinking hehehe. Enjoy your school Jael! 🙂
Wow he looks like a little binata na! Like you I won’t enrol my son in a proper school until next year, when he turns 5. God bless you on this new journey!
We gave our children June to rest. We just finished their curriculum for last year in May. But this year is their first time to attend MAPEH and Electives at Legacy International, and unlike their old MAPEH school, this one has heavier load. From 9AM to 4PM. They start in July 2.
Yes, it’s not just about play learning, education is sometimes tough love too, because they will not possible like all lessons. My kids hate the writing part too but I have to exercise firmness on that.
Congrats on Jael’s first day in school! Exciting times ahead. 🙂 Our Ziggy has entered kindergarten this year too but we opted to continue homeschooling him and enrolled in a homeschool provider instead. Hope Jael will enjoy his first year in school. 🙂
My kids are at that age when first day of school isn’t really that big a deal anymore… in fact parents and guardians are no longer allowed to stay (they’re already 7th and 11th graders).
Hi Jael, how’s school so far? I hope you’re doing great and enjoying making friends. Don’t focus on the academics so much 🙂 have fun!
