We always hear that a healthy breakfast will carry you throughout the day. Also, that breakfast is a meal you shouldn’t miss. All true facts and more that I learned at the recent Energen Healthy Breakfast Movement held in Barangay Commonwealth.
According to the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute, 6 out of 10 Filipino households suffer from poor nutrition. A national nutrition survey conducted by DOST-FNRI in 2013 reveals that wasting or thinness among 5-10 year old children remains unchanged since 2011. It’s important that as early as possible children start a healthy diet and continue this through adulthood.
Poor nutrition problems can start from the simple fact of missing breakfast and skipping meals. This and an unbalanced diet can lead to poor performance at school and work.
“Breakfast is the most important meal.” Studies have shown that consuming a nutritious breakfast helps ensure that children and adults will have the energy that can sustain their productivity throughout the day. It also helps contribute to the development of mental and physical abilities,” said Greg Anonas, Energen Marketing Manager.
Proper nutrition starts with a healthy breakfast and Energen aims to educate and encourage families to start their day right with a healthy breakfast. Energen is an easy to prepare nutritious cereal drink that contains milk, eggs, cereal, essential vitamins, and minerals such as folic acid, calcium, Vitamin A, E, B1, B6, and B12.
Energen has been actively promoting healthy breakfast habits in cooperation with the Department of Health League of Registered Nutritionists and Dieticians. This includes a breakfast supplementary feeding program in Minalin, Pampanga which has been instrumental in improving the weight and nutrition of malnourished children.
Ms Rochelle Pangilinan of the famed Sex Bomb girls has been an advocate for the Healthy Breakfast Movement and encouraged everyone in Barangay Commonwealth to drink their Energen and get groovin with some Zumba exercises.
Energen will promote the Healthy Breakfast Movement throughout the year with a series of community based events nationwide to educate families about the importance of eating a healthy and nutritious breakfast.
There are free one-on-one consultations with licensed nutritionists, education talks as well as a fresh cup of Energen with some activities.
The Energen Healthy Breakfast Movement will next travel to Cebu City (Barangay Tinago Sports Complex) on May 21 and Davao City (Davao City Recreational Center-Almendras Gym) on May 28.
Energen comes in 3 delcious flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate and Ginger. It’s available in sari-sari stores, convenience stores and supermarkets at Php6.00 SRP.

Great initiative! We have something similar in the Caribbean, called Sanatogen and there are others, but still good healthy alternatives for you to get your breakfast off and running right.
The Energn movement sounds good, I like that there are three different flavors and did someone mention Zumba? That is so cool!
A lot of amazing photos and it looks like a lot of fun!
I know that breakfast is very important but I simply can’t eat straight away after I wake up. My body refuses any food until 2 hours after I get up. And by then I am already at work, waiting for lunch. But children should never skip breakfast. And a chocolate drink sounds delicious for them.
This sounds good. I always add chocolate to my glass of milk when I have it. Not sure if I would like to try ginger but either vanilla or chocolate would be my choice. I normally drink MILO but it would be nice trying out Evergen.
Oooo what a fun movement!!! I’ve never heard of energen but it looks like I’ve been missing out! Must give it a try
I`ve always liked to drink Energen for breakfast. Energen provides nutrients the body need. It`s affordable and easy to make!

Love the advocacy of this campaign. Energen is Perfect for family breakfast!
That looks yum! I bet the sense of community helps you stay healthy !
Mmmmmmm I love drinking shakes for breakfast! Never heard of this company but it looks very good!
I have never tried Energen, not sure if there’s around here. In any case, I agree that breakfast is the most important meal. I also love breakfast dreams, they are usually tasty and nutritious. I always have a very rushed breakfast in the morning, so I take my time later at work with an extra boost with a breakfast cereal drink.
This is a great initiative. We need more healthy food companies.
OMG..Energen is one of my favourite for breakfast back then when I lived in Indonesia. It’s great that they put an event like this to raise of awareness of how important it is the breakfast especially for children.
This is such an amazing movement. It seems that a lot of people took part. I totally agree, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
What a great initiative, love it! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so glad you are part of such a noble cause, good luck!
