My mom was adamant that my brother and I have healthy teeth that’s why I’m thankful that I have a good set. My kids however, have some problems. Bastian’s teeth need a little pasta work while Kianna needs braces. It’s now that they’re in their teens that I realize just how important dental care and prevention is. It was so fabulous that Colgate provided me with some of their products!
My teens are now more conscious of good dental habits and with Jael I’m preparing him as well, so he can also have a good dental habit. Did you know that it matters how many times a day you brush and what kind of toothbrush you use? I didn’t and only learned during hubby’s dental visit that depending on your gums you need to choose the right bristles for you teeth. I’ve got plenty of facts, some you’ll be surprised with so read on!
FACT 1: Mouthwash such as Colgate Plax is better used before brushing teeth to soften plaque and loosen particles in between teeth prior to brushing.
FACT 2: If you’re unable to brush, a mouthwash with fluoride helps take care of the spaces inside the mouth that your toothbrush can’t reach.
FACT 3: Try not to brush your teeth after drinking soft drinks as the acid makes your teeth porous and you can get enamel abrasions from brushing which causes tooth sensitivity.
FACT 4: In the Philippines 9 out of 10 Grade 1 public students (age 6 years old) have cavities. The two most common dental problems are dental caries and periodontal diseases. If oral health care is addressed even before kids go to school these can be lessened.
FACT 5: The perfect angle for brushing your teeth is at 45 degrees. At least two minutes of brushing ensures you have covered all areas in your mouth. You should also brush your tongue.
FACT 6: Milk teeth should be preserved for as long as possible as this is the guide to permanent teeth growth. Early extraction can cause misalignment.
FACT 7: The right amount of toothpaste for kids:
Children under 2 years old: a smear of toothpaste
Children between the ages 2 to 5 years old: pea-sized amount of toothpaste
FACT 8: Waxed floss is the best dental floss for your teeth. A recommended 20 inches will give you enough length to remove plaque and debris between your teeth. A fresh section of floss should be used for each tooth.
I hope these facts helped you and your family. Don’t forget to schedule your next dental appointment!

Two things I noticed when we first met: your height and good set of teeth. Lucky you! I had to deal with insecuries when I was young because I had crooked teeth. Took me 3 years after college to have my teeth fixed. With my kids, I started them early with braces.
Thankfully, my kids have beautiful teeth! My constant reminders for them to brush their teeth paid off. At 4 years and 2 years, they know they’re supposed to brush even without being told. I’m happy, too, that they’re very comfortable getting their teeth cleaned by the dentist every 6 months. At least walang drama when it’s time to go to the dentist!
We love their Charcoal toothbrush! Unique and so soft!
Thank you for these amazing tips for oral care! I didn’t know that it only takes a smear of toothpaste for a 2 year old to protect their teeth!
need help with my kiddos’ teeth, too. Keeping these in mind. Thanks Colgate for providing mommy consumers like me the best options.
