My love for reading is something I’ve tried to impress upon the kids. Since we lack the space I’ve made it so that I make reading available on all our gadgets. I constantly search for a story app that will hold Jael’s interest. We’ve tried quite a few but nothing that Jael would keep coming back to until I found Speakaboos.
Jael is almost going to school and I’ve been encouraging him to read. Setting a great example is Bastian who likes to read and has read many books. I’m gradually easing him into YA and right now he’s reading The Maze Runner. Kianna on the other hand is not as enthusiastic about reading BUT when she read Judy Blume’s Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret she got interested in similar books.
Since we discovered Speakaboos (ideal for kids aged 2-7) we all take turns reading with him. For the most part it’s me and the little guy. I really fell in love with this story app because not only does it have a library of over 150 books but the books are interactive with animated characters, story-driven games, and touch-screen interactions.
When you open the app you are brought to a book like screen and you can turn the pages to see the different stories available. When you pick a story it will load onto your device if it’s the first time you’ll be reading it. Make sure to have adequate space on your devices.
There’s a wide variety of story themes and some of Jael’s favorites are the Classics, Fairy Tales, Holidays and Robots. There are popular characters as well, such as Angelina Ballerina and Thomas and Friends.
All books will give you options. As you can see below in one of Jael’s favorite stories, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, he can choose from Read To me, Read & Play and Read It Myself. He’s still learning how to read so he chooses Read & Play. Read & Play offers an interactive experience which I’ll tell you more about in a bit.
There are some stories that are reading by song like this Dinostory: Brachiosaurus. There are so many options to use in this app and it’s guaranteed your child will never get bored.
One of my favorite reads and interactive activities for Jael is the Find It stories.
When you choose Read & Play the story is read to you and it has an activity that your child can play, specifically finding items.
This activity is great for recall and introducing kids to new things. So far there are 10 stories and hopefully they make more!
