We made Kianna‘s summer a memorable one with the Total Girl Model Academy 2015 event on April 19 at the Glorietta Activity Center. She was so happy that she got to join and it was double the fun because she was with her best friend, Pauline. Girls 8-13 years old were invited to join the modeling and go see event sponsored by Claire’s and of course Total Girl Magazine.
We were there by 12pm for the registration and quite a lot of girls were already in line. Kianna and Pauline were already number 71 & 72! At last count when we left they already had past 100 girls joining. It’s definitely an incredible opportunity for them especially if they get chosen to be one of the 10 girls to be featured in the September issue!
Kianna and Pauline came in their best summer style outfits. They kept their look simple and with very little make up. My thinking was the judges would be looking at potential and would rather see a fresh face and blank canvas.
Upon registration the girls were given numbers and a passport where each stage would be checked off once done. The 5 stages included 1.) Discover Your Style 2.) Strut Your Stuff 3.) Be Camera Ready 4.) Create Your Comp Card 5.) Rock the Ramp.
Claire’s was the main sponsor for the event and the girls got to go home with some cute accessories.
Kianna really enjoyed the experience although she was very nervous about the final walk and introducing herself. Activities like these are confidence builders and though you’re not necessarily aiming for them to be runway models you want to give them that boost of confidence. Confidence was a prime point in each of the workshops.
The event was organized and properly set up. They did it by batches and thankfully it wasn’t long before Kianna and Pauline were up.
They were invited to leave a special message on the Total Girl Model Academy wall.
Here are their messages. Short and sweet!
1ST STAGE: Discover Your Style by Raizel Dy, a fashion stylist and make-up artist
2ND STAGE: Strut Your Stuff with Ning Corteza, an instructor of runway modelling, imaging, and visual posing
They were taught a bit of ramp modelling, proper posture, and personality coaching. They even had a mini catwalk practice.
3RD STAGE: Be Camera Ready with Photography Coach Heidi Aquende, a commercial and editorial photographer
4TH STAGE: Create Your Comp Card
The photo booth produced “Comp Cards,” otherwise known as model’s set cards, for participants to take home as souvenirs.
5TH STAGE: Rock the Ramp
The last stage is the final test of this event: the go-see. Here they applied everything they learned from the entire workshop, in front of a panel of judges.
Here’s Kianna’s walk and introduction:

Such a great event for their age. 🙂 And yes! It’s true that this kind of workshop builds self-confidence. Facing people specially strangers and simply showing them a simple runway is nervous breaking but I bet this workshop changes that. 🙂 Keep it up!!!
