I’m thankful that my mom was patient enough to make sure that I brushed my teeth when I was younger. I remember my brother usually falling asleep, my mom dragging him to the sink and brushing his teeth while he was half-asleep on a chair.
Her perseverance to make sure we had healthy teeth was successful. My teeth are healthy and I have no cavities. I’ve only had a pasta once and 1 tooth removed (wisdom tooth which was impacted).
Today, with my 3 children I’ve tried to maintain the same level of dedication when it comes to my children’s teeth. I wouldn’t call myself a success just yet because my children have had pastas done but I’m proud to say that because their milk teeth were healthy their permanent teeth came in healthy as well which I learned was vital in ensuring your children’s teeth grow strong and are free from cavities .
Where did I learn this? From one of the most prettiest dentists I’ve seen who I had the pleasure of meeting at a mommy blogger event for Lotte Xylitol gum. We had an afternoon discussion about our children’s teeth and learned some interesting facts about its growth and ways to take care of them.
I was thrilled to be invited to the event along with other mommy bloggers. Ginger Arboleda of Manila Workshops helped organize the event and they had a great idea to make this an intimate session for bloggers where we got to know a little about each other.
I learned quite a few things from Dr. Fina Lopez DMD, a pediatric dentist for over 15 years. She has 5 children and her personal stories of dental hygiene in her family were both funny and informative.
She shared that 9 out of 10 children have tooth decay in the Philippines which is pretty overwhelming. I think that goes back to the fact that most parents don’t feel the need to take care of baby teeth because they’re just temporary. Point in fact is that this is the basis of whether children will have a good set of teeth or not.
I was interested to learn that it’s starches and not necessarily just sweets that can be harmful to your teeth. Usually as parents we prefer to give our children biscuits for snacks thinking that it’s healthier overall but it turns out that we miss the fact that it can be bad for your teeth.
I also wasn’t aware that saliva helps you fight germs in your mouth and that it also protects tooth enamel and prevents tooth decay and gum disease. For saliva to play an effective role it needs time to reproduce the proteins and minerals. This happens when we chew. The more you chew the more saliva you make.
In comes Lotte Xylitol which can help us reproduce those proteins and minerals in a healthy way.
What is Xylitol?
- 100% natural sweetener first derived from birch trees in the 20th century
- Discovered and utilized as a sugar substitute because it tastes as sweet as sugar
- Unlike sugars like sucrose or glucose, Xylitol reduces the growth of cavity-causing Streptococcus mutans bacteria
- Used predominantly in dental health products like dental health candy, dental health drops, and dental health gum
How is Lotte Xylitol Dental Health Gum in particular good for our teeth?
- It’s a sugar-free gum with over 50% xylitol as a sugar substitute
- Reduces cavity-causing bacteria that feed on sugar and create acids that dissolve tooth enamel resulting in tooth decay
- Promotes saliva flow to maintain healthy pH levels in the mouth to prevent demineralization of tooth enamel
- Removes particles of food that may be left behind which can cause tooth decay or bad breath
- Helps remove stubborn tartar on teeth surfaces through the chewing action of the gum
- Promotes remineralization or rebuilding of the teeth enamel thru the presence of calcium phosphates and by promoting saliva production
Lotte Xylitol comes in 4 flavors, Blueberry Mint, Fresh Mint, Lime Mint, and Strawberry.
I find the mini very convenient and so do my kids and husband. It’s easy to bring around and very handy.
Bastian and Kianna like the Blueberry flavor and each bring a bottle to school. I favor Fresh Mint while Oliver likes Lime Mint.
Jael has been trying to sneak a few so better be careful with those. Lotte Xylitol is best for children 6 years and above.
