Sometimes I’m in wonderment that I’ve finally decided to become fit. I wouldn’t say I was the laziest person around but definitely if there’s any physical activity involved I’ll take a back seat and let the others have a go. In my mind I’d like to see myself joining a gym or participating in marathons but would never actually go out of my way to make it happen. Enter my fitness journey. When I started dedicating time and effort to exercising and eating right I became aware of just how much I had been depriving myself. Now, I join physical activities and find myself excited doing so. Take for instance a session at Curves Magnolia Residences.

Curves is a fitness center specially for women that offers a total body workout that combines both strength and cardio training in just a 30 minute session. I was more than happy to attend their first year anniversary where I got to learn about circuit training, the machines they used and dance some zumba.

The nice thing about an all women’s gym is that you can enjoy the privacy of exercising and feel comfortable and relaxed while doing so. Though the impression is that a gym is a place to impress, those serious with their fitness journey know it’s not the place to look pretty but to get down and dirty losing those pounds and getting into shape.

The workouts I’ve been doing have focused on toning while doing core, booty arms, etc. I learned about circuit training which is an interesting concept of doing 30 minute exercises a day but at a much faster pace. Basically, you go from one machine to the next having about 30 seconds on each until you have gone through all the machines. Don’t worry though! You’ve got recovery moves in between.

The circuit is made up of hydraulic resistance machines which are designed to give increasing resistance. It focuses on your chest, core, legs and more. The machines will have you working your glutes, abs, back, legs and shoulders. That’s a thorough work out if I do say so myself!

Specially designed for women, each low-impact machine works at least two muscle groups and as many as four at one time because you push and pull, rather than lift and lower weight. Let me tell you, it was a challenge. I think the expression on my face says it all.

Aside from getting the opportunity to try the machines, I also got to dance some zumba and sweat it out. It was a funny experience and it’s true that the camaraderie between women made it easier and fun.
