2016 will be an exciting year for our Nido 5+ journey. Ever since Jael started drinking Nido Growing Up Milk (GUM) he has gained the appropriate weight for his age and also has a better appetite. He starts his mornings with a glass and ends his day with another glass.
I received an invite to attend a bloggers kick off event for Nido which I looked forward to as I would learn more about my son’s favorite milk drink and also get a chance to talk to a nutritionist. There are a lot of ways to protect children, and one of the best ways to properly do so is to start from the inside. We tackled proper nutrition and the benefits of including Nido in our children’s diet.
The event was hosted by Bettina Carlos who also had some questions of her own about Nido GUM.
This discussion included language, cognitive, and physical growth by age. We were also taught a traffic light guide to food choices which unfortunately showed us the food that we should eat less of or not at all! For children though, this an ideal way to start them early on healthy food choices.
Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals that benefit children in many ways. Aside from improved nutrition, these nutrient-dense foods also build up their immune system, prevent the risk of obesity, and promote healthy bowel patterns.
Jael falls in the Middle Childhood (5-8 years old) which has a focus on increased muscular strength, coordination and stamina. Growth in weight averages 3-3.5kg/yr and 6-7cm/ yr in height while 1200-1500 calories per day is needed to sustain an active 5-8 year old child.
At this age children can be taught healthy food choices and you can involve them in grocery shopping. You can also teach basic cooking skills like making pancakes and stir fry vegetables.
It’s important to try and limit TV time which is easier said than done but in doing this it lessens the possibility of obesity. Family meals are important and parents are role models for making healthy eating choices.
Healthy eating choices = a healthy and active child.
Milk provides extra calcium and increased DHA, folic acid, and taurine for the brain. The ability of children to ward off sickness and disease is very reliant on the health of their stomach where bacteria thrive. When people think of bacteria, they often think of it negatively. But the truth is, not all bacteria are bad. There are good bacteria and bad bacteria, and whenever there are too much bad bacteria in the tummy, the stomach system is thrown off balance, leaving children weak and vulnerable.
Lactobacillus Protectus is the combination of two kinds of good bacteria and there are millions of them in every glass, ready to protect kids tummies and help build their bodily defenses. Nido milk is the only milk that contains this.
For kids 5 and up, there is NIDO® 5+, enriched with CALCI-N® to help build healthy bones by providing better calcium absorption. Nido 5+ is recommended until 7 years old when they can then shift to Nido Fortigrow.
Make sure tom include milk in your child’s diest and I highly recommend Nido 5+ which he not only likes to drink but he himself requests for. That’s a pretty tall order for most kids and I’m happy that Nido has made Jael a milk loving kid.
NIDO GUM also has Nido Junior (1-3 years old) and Nido 3+ (3-4 years old) variants.

My 21 months old son is on Nido for almost 5 months now. But only drinks in the morning and before bedtime. I used to give him Progress Gold but he doesn’t like it. No no daw. hahaha
Nido is love! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m a Nido kid and will definitely consider Nido for my son when he hit the right age. Thanks for sharing!
The boys and I so love Nido.
Events like these are very informative. My two older kids grew up with Nido.
Personally, I have tried Nido when I was given a sampler. It tastes really good!

Been reading about Nido GUM and at first I thought its literally gum! Haha… Kidding aside, my daughter her Nido milk phase also 🙂
I so agree to the healthy eating choices. Tamang kain talaga is the major key to a healthy child partnered by a good milk. =)
What is the difference between nido 5 plus, nido fortigrow and nido fortified? My 5 years old son wants to drink nido,… He used to drink bonnakid… But now he’s asking for nido when he saw the ad in the tv… Hope to here from you soon.. Thank you
Hi Lorellie! Nido 5 plus is a growing up milk for kids aged 5-7. Nido Fortigrow and Nido Fortified is for kids aged 5-12. The differences are the nutrients as they each have separate concentrations.
What is the ratio of nido 5+ with water for my 5 year old?
Hi Angie, A regular glass of water should be fine. It can also be adjusted depending on your child’s taste preference The amount of milk powder should be the usual serving. Hope this helps!
