It was another date with my little man, this time at Saboten in Glorietta 5. I was looking forward to trying their Japanese Comfort Food Set. Who couldn’t do with more comfort and from food at that!

It was a sunny day and we were looking forward to eating and talking. Well, at least I was. With the rate that Jael’s at when it comes to talking I knew we wouldn’t run out of things to talk about.

It was also a great chance to practice my food photography skills. I think I’ve been improving and I notice that I’m always taking close ups of food. I love the way they look up close that you can practically taste it! Mommy Bloggers Philippines had it’s first ever photography workshop at Saboten so it was a very welcome return.

We started off with a couple of drinks. I had ordered the shake while Jael ordered juice but we ended up trading our drinks.

Starter Salad

All dishes include this shredded cabbage and pickles. I’ve never tried this before but what clinched it for me was the amazing Sesame dressing that comes with it. You can actually drizzle all your dishes with it!

Japanese Comfort Food Set

The Japanese Comfort Food Set is only available for a limited time. Hopefully they make it a main stay. There are 4 dishes in their offering and all are imported from Hiroshima, Japan giving you that authentic Japanese taste.

Maguro Tsukudai (Php120)

It’s a seasoned tuna dish with a bit of a spicy kick. On it’s own a bit too salty but with rice just perfect.

Sweet and Sour Chicken Nanban Set (Php475)

The hint of sweet and sour is just enough  to taste even when eaten with rice. It’s a rather soft crisp but tender chicken.

Ginger Pork Shogayaki with Sweet Radish Steak Set (Php495)

I’m not a huge fan of ginger but this dish? Well, it was an evenly cooked dish with just the faintest hint made better by the sweet radish accompanying it. Since, there was so much food, I had to take some home and hubby liked this.

Jumbo Deep Fried Oyster (Php195/pc)

Now we get to my favorite! This was the best of the 4 and the tartar sauce and lemon was a perfect match for the deep fried oyster. At Php195/pc it seems a bit expensive but when the explosion of flavors hits your mouth you’ll be ordering a second and a third…

The Japanese meal set, as with most of Saboten’s dishes are good for sharing. It was one foodgasmic meal and I can’t wait to come back with the whole family to order the Japanese Comfort Food Meal Set.

Kid’s Set (Php275)

As I was busying exploring the various dishes and flavors, Jael was loving his Kid’s Meal Set. If you’ve been on the blog a few times you’ll know that Jael is a rather picky eater. He’ll eat what’s in front of him because he has no choice but I would rather he eat with gusto. Which he did with this meal. I thought he would focus on the fries but he wanted the Tenderloin Cutlet and Crab Cream Croquette. The Kids Set also includes fresh orange juice with pulp!

Chocolate Hazelnut Cream Cake (Ph195)

Last but not least was dessert. This creamy cake was to die for. I of course, chose chocolate and it did not disappoint. I wholly agree with the fact that it’s one of their bestsellers. With a melt in your mouth cream filling and smooth chocolate cover you’ll feel like you’re in dessert heaven.
